How To Make A Bath Truffle
Create your own unique, homemade bath truffle using our fun and easy guide!
This recipe is a guide and can be adjusted using all kinds of essential oils, butters and more on our website to create your own bespoke bath truffles.
We will be using Shea Butter in our bath truffle as it has some wonderful properties to help nourish and moisturize the skin, and it is known for its anti-inflammatory properties to help soothe skin problems.
We have also chosen our YlangIII Essential Oil for our Bath Truffles. Due to its aromatherapeutic properties, it is known for promoting relaxation, mood-boosting and lowering blood pressure.
Please ensure all appropriate safety gear is worn when making this product.
Equipment
• Mixing Bowls
• Weighing Scales
• Starfish Mould
Materials
• 300g Bicarbonate of Soda
• 100g Citric Acid Fine Granular, Monohydrate
• 20g Polysorbate 80
• 80g Shea Butter, Refined
• 10g Ylang Essential Oil lll
Step 1
Firstly, wearing gloves weigh out all of your ingredients.
Step 2
Add your shea butter to one mixing bowl and melt in the microwave.
Step 3
While your Shea Butter is melting combine the bicarbonate of soda and the citric acid into another mixing bowl. Sieve if necessary and thoroughly mix together until you have a consistent texture.
Step 4
Next, add in your Polysorbate and, wearing gloves, combine the mix with your hands.
Step 5
Then add in your fragrance oil and mix with your hands again.
Step 6
With your Shea Butter melted you can now add this to your mixture and mix with your hands one more time. You want just enough shea butter so when you take a small amount in your hand and squeeze it, it keeps the shape. There will be a slight oily surface feel and this is important, but the mixture should only have enough oil/butter to hold it all together.
Step 7
Now your mixture is ready, it is now time to add it to your moulds. Using your hands gently add your mixture to your moulds, patting the mixture down making sure you fill any gaps.
Step 8
Using a flat edge tool or a soap cutter as we have here, scrape off any excess mixture so your truffle has a smooth edge.
Step 9
Gently flip over your mould onto a flat surface and give it a tap on the top (it may stick slightly so just gently keep taping) and carefully remove your mould. Then repeat until you have used up all of your mix.
Step 10
Leave your bath truffles to completely solidify, preferably overnight. Once solidified, simply place your truffle into your bath and let it work its luxurious magic!
Optional: Add a Coated Mica for a touch of colour to your truffle!
