What are the best botanicals to use as an exfoliant?
Exfoliation is an important part of any skin care routine as it helps to remove dead skin cells, allowing new, younger looking skin to surface. There are a variety of botanicals that can be used as exfoliants – from finer grains such as ground pumice stone and almond shell, all the way to raspberry and strawberry seeds. Let’s delve deeper into the various botanicals that you can use for exfoliating your face or body:
Ground Pumice Stone: They have a gritty texture which makes them perfect for tough and deep cleansing exfoliation sessions. To use it just mix some with water until it reaches a paste-like consistency then rub over desired area in gentle circular motions then rinse off completely afterwards. Or apply to a recipe like our Moisturising Body Scrub to combine with the benefits of other amazing ingredients.
Almond Shell: These natural shells offer a milder form of exfoliation than pumice stones but should still only be used 1-2 times per week as they may cause irritation if overused. Including in a body scrub recipe, you can then gently massage onto the desired area using circular movements while avoiding sensitive areas such as around eyes or nose before rinsing off completely with warm water afterwards.
Botanicals are ideal for helping give yourself at home exfoliations no matter what type preferred! We have a wide selection on our website, as well as a range of salts for making salt scrubs. Remember though even though some may be gentler than others all types should still be performed no more than two times per week in order to avoid unnecessary irritation or harm! As always happy scrubbing!
