How To Make Soaps & Bath Bombs - Perfect for Beginners
Ever fancied making your own cosmetics and toiletries but not sure where to start? This is our step by step guide on how to make soaps and bath bombs - perfect for beginners. From useful tools to the start up ingredients/recipes, we go through it all and have everything you need on our website.
What tools do you need for making Soaps & Bath Bombs?
Soap Cutter, available as a straight cutting blade or a crinkle cutting blade, our soap cutters are perfect for cutting your ingredients and finished products. With a 1mm blunt edge blade and wooden, easy grip handle, it allows you to safely cut into soap bases, scrape away excess bath bomb mixture, finish off your soap bars and break away any hard to remove butter or waxes from their containers.
Pouring/Measuring Jug or Mixing Bowl is a must have when making cosmetics and toiletries, something easily sourced from your kitchen cupboards. We also supply three different jugs, all pro-quality, available in a variety of sizes and have characteristics perfect for precision pouring, harsh chemicals and accurate measurements.
Thermometer, used more in soap making and dual process applications, a thermometer is a great tool for combining your ingredients at the correct temperatures. This ensures they work to the best of their ability in the perfectly suited environment. For example in Cold Process Soap making, ensuring your Lye and Oils are at the same cooler temperature removes the risk of volcanos!
A wonderful pair is a Whisk and a Spatula, both equally important for a variety of reasons but essential for mixing your formulations and ensuring your ingredients have been evenly dispersed throughout. As well as getting every last drop out of your mixing jug or bowl.

How To Make Soap
Using the Melt & Pour Soap method, the beginners guide, we are going to show you how simple it is to make your very own soap from home. We are using one of our soap bases from our Stephenson range, with over 25 different bases to choose from. Whether you are looking for a base that is creamy, has exfoliating properties, is high foaming, gentle on the skin, soothing, rich in vitamins and so much more, we have an incredible range for you to explore.
Equipment:
• Spatula
• Mixing Jug
• Cutting Knife/Blade
• Square Silicone Mould
Ingredients:
• 100g Shea Butter Soap Base
• 3g Fragrance Oil
• 2g Liquid Colour
• Isopropyl Alcohol (optional)

How To Make Your Own Melt & Pour Soap...
- Firstly, prepare your area by gathering all the necessary equipment needed.
- Wearing gloves, start by carefully cutting your soap into cubes and melting in short bursts in the microwave.
- Next, pour in a few drops of liquid colour and mix well until dispersed throughout.
- Then, add in your fragrance oil and stir well until completely combined.
- Once you are happy, slowly pour your soap into your mould and spritz with IPA to remove any unwanted bubbles. Then leave to set, preferably overnight.
- Once fully set, carefully remove from your mould and you can enjoy your DIY soap!
How To Make Bath Bomb
As with soap making, creating your own bath bombs can start with a simple fizz through to a beautiful display of colour and release of relaxing aromas. This is a beginners guide to bath bomb making, we are going to show you how simple it is to make your very own bath bombs from home. Using only five ingredients, you can make a foaming bath bomb and experiment with styles and techniques to make yours unique.
Equipment:
• 2 x Mixing Bowls
• Water Sprayer
• Cutting Knife/Blade
• Circle Silicone Mould
Ingredients:
• 150g Bicarbonate of Soda
• 50g Citric Acid
• 10g SLSA Powder
• 5g Fragrance Oil
• 2g Mica Powder

How To Make Your Own Foaming Bath Bomb...
- Firstly, prepare your area by gathering all the necessary equipment needed.
- Wearing gloves, start by using your hands to carefully mix together your bicarb, citric and SLSA powder.
- Next, pour in fragrance and mix well until dispersed throughout. Breaking away any lumps that may form.
- Then, split your mixture into two bowls and put one to one side. This is your white bath bomb mix.
- In the other bowl, sprinkle in your mica powder and combine. Ensuring your colours blends throughout your mixture.
- Once you are happy, from a distance, spritz your bowl with water and mix immediately until your reach a consistency that holds together like a snowball. Repeat this with your white mix as well.
- Now you can build your bath bombs, here you can get creative. We decided to layer our colours to create a marble effect. Make sure you pack your mixture tight into your mould and scrape any excess off. Then leave to set, preferably overnight.
- Once fully set, carefully remove from your mould and you can enjoy your DIY bath bomb!
