Inspired by Christmas Traditions
As the Christmas season draws nearer, many of us revel in the festive traditions that make the holidays feel so special. Leaving out a glass of milk, a mince pie, and a carrot for the reindeer on Christmas Eve is a classic practice that has inspired our unique melt-and-pour soap recipe.
By incorporating goat's milk soap base and blending it with carrot tissue oil, mince pie fragrance, and jumbo oats, we have created a beautifully scented soap that captures the holiday spirit. Not only is this a thoughtful gift, but it's also a nourishing and gentle cleanser that will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. Brighten up the festive season with our Christmas Eve melt-and-pour soap - it's the perfect way to add a touch of whimsy to your holiday traditions.
Discolouring in Melt & Pour Soaps
Melt and pour soap, also known as M&P soap, is a type of soap that can easily melt down when heated and be combined with other ingredients to create a variety of unique and creative bar soaps. While this type of soap-making process offers lots of versatility, one issue some people have experienced is discolouration in the finished product.
When it comes to discolouring melt and pour soap, several factors can come into play. Firstly, any additives such as fragrance or colouring may cause staining or marring to your bars. If you’re using essential oils as a scenting agent then this could cause browning over time due to oxidation. Also if the oil has an ingredient called vanillin it can lead to some darkening of the finished product. The other factor at play is heat – too much heat during the melting process can cause your soaps to turn darker than intended which could lead to an undesirable finish colour for your bars once cooled down. And finally, pH levels can affect how light or dark your final product turns out - high lye concentrations will result in very dark brown colours while low lye concentrations will give more pastel-like shades of tan and yellowish hues depending on what additives were used during the recipe making process (fragrance/colour etc). Pre-made soap bases will state the pH of the base but the additives can adjust this.
The best way to prevent discolouring in melt and pour soap is by trying not to add too much excess heat during melting stages – heating them until just molten should be plenty hot enough without causing any damage! Also avoiding fragrances with strong vanillin contents will help limit browning from occurring over time; testing in small amounts at first also allows you to test out how each particular additive behaves within your recipe before committing larger quantities. Experimenting with lower pH levels too may produce lighter colours if aiming for those kinds of aesthetic effects…
For this recipe we used a fragrance that has caused our soap to turn brown, fortunately, this doesn't affect the aesthetics...

How To Make Your Own Christmas Eve Soaps...
- Firstly, prepare your area by gathering all the necessary equipment and ingredients needed.
- Start by weighing out your Soap Base and carefully cutting it into cubes.
- Next, add this to your jug and melt in the microwave until fully melted. Melt in short 30-second bursts to stop your soap from overheating.
- Once melted, add in your Fragrance, and stir well.
- Then add in your Carrot Oil and mix until dispersed throughout.
- In a separate jug, mix a handful of Oats and some Cocoa Powder. Then pour in roughly a third of your melted soap mix and stir together. You may need more oats or cocoa, to create a dark layer that looks like mince pie filling.
- When you are happy pour this into your soap moulds.
- In a small jug, pour in a third of your remaining soap mix. Then add in 1-2 drops of Orange Liquid Dye and stir until dispersed.
- Using a spatula, slowly pour your orange layer on top of your mince pie layer.
- Then once your orange layer has started to harden, pour your remaining white mix into your moulds. Sprinkle with Cocoa Powder and then leave to set.
- Once set, carefully remove your bars from the mould and then you can enjoy your Christmas Eve Melt & Pour Soap!
Why are jumbo oats good in soap bars?
There are several reasons why jumbo oats have become a popular ingredient in soap bars. Not only do they provide amazing benefits for the skin, but they also act as a natural exfoliant that leaves your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.
Firstly, let's talk about the incredible properties of jumbo oats. These little powerhouses are packed with vitamins and minerals such as zinc, iron, magnesium, and B vitamins. This makes them great for nourishing the skin and promoting overall health.
But what truly sets jumbo oats apart is their ability to absorb excess oil and impurities from the skin without stripping it of its natural oils. This makes them an ideal ingredient for those with oily or combination skin types.
Furthermore, their texture makes them fantastic exfoliators. Unlike harsh chemical-based scrubs, jumbo oats gently buff away dead skin cells while providing moisture to the newly exposed layer of skin beneath. This results in a smoother complexion without any irritation or dryness.
Not only do these gentle grains remove dirt and oil from the surface of the skin, but they also deep clean pores to prevent breakouts and blackheads. This is because jumbo oats have natural saponins - compounds that help create lather when mixed with water - which effectively cleanse pores without causing any damage to the delicate facial tissue.
Moreover, using oatmeal-based soap bars can also improve overall hydration levels in your skin due to its high glycerin content. Glycerin acts as a humectant that draws moisture into your skin from the surrounding air – leaving you with plump and hydrated-looking complexions all year round!
In addition to all these wonderful benefits for our physical appearance, jumbo oat soap bars are also eco-friendly! As consumers become more conscious about reducing plastic waste generated by cosmetic products, oatmeal soaps offer an environmentally friendly alternative since they come packaged in biodegradable materials like paper or cardboard.
With so many amazing properties, it's no wonder that jumbo oats have become a must-have ingredient in soap bars. Not only do they provide fantastic benefits for our skin, but they are also gentle and suitable for all skin types.
So next time you're formulating a soap bar, consider switching to an oatmeal-based soap bar. Your skin will thank you for the nourishment and exfoliation it provides while being sustainable and eco-friendly at the same time. Happy pampering!
