Buried Treasures

A buried treasure is simply a way of putting one object inside another so as it becomes a surprise to find it there. This recipe makes Rose Fragranced, Heart Shaped Buried Treasures and is simply a heart-shaped bath bomb, coloured pink and fragranced with Rose fragrance oil, inside which is concealed a small heart-shaped pale pink, Rose fragranced soap. Makes an ideal gift for children to make for special days such as Mother's day. You can choose to make your Buried Treasures any colour or shap you wish, the principal is the same.
YOU'LL NEED.....
Microwaveable bowl or small saucepan
Kitchen knife
Microwave oven or regular hob
Mixing bowl
Lidded glass jar
Hand sprayer filled with cold, clean water
INGREDIENTS....
These measurements make 4 buried treasures using the suggested moulds...
1) 300g Sodium Bicarbonate
2) 100g Citric Acid
3) 150g White melt-n-pour soap base
4) Red liquid colour
5) Rose fragrance
6) 2 Small 'heart' soap/bath bomb moulds (4 halves)
7) 3 Large 'heart' soap/bath bomb moulds (uses 5 halves)

Step 1
Weigh out around 150g of soap base. Cut it into small pieces and place them in a small saucepan or microwaveable bowl.
Step 2
Melt gently on the hob or in a microwave on High until JUST melted. If using a microwave be careful not to overheat. You may need to stir it and place back in the microwave 2-3 times, a few SECONDS at a time.
Step 3
When JUST melted, add a few drops of red liquid colour, stirring until a light-mid pink colour is achieved
Step 4
Working fast enough to avoid a skin forming, add a few drops of Rose fragrance and stir until fully combined.
Step 5
Place 4 halves of the SMALL heart shaped moulds on a flat surface or lay them each on top of a glass or mug, so as they are steady and supported.
Step 6
Pour the soap mixture into each mould right up to the top surface and leave them at room temperature for around 2 hours.
Step 7
Remove the soaps from the moulds by simply 'pressing' them out and put them aside. These will be the treasures, buried inside the heart shaped bath bombs.
Step 8
Remove the soaps from the moulds by simply 'pressing' them out and put them aside. These will be the treasures, buried inside the heart shaped bath bombs.
Step 9
Measure 10ml (2 level tsp) of Rose fragrance into the glass jar. Add to this around 15 drops of red liquid colour and screw on the lid. Shake well to combine the liquids.
Step 10
Add the contents of the jar to the mixture in the bowl and mix thoroughly.
Step 11
Take the hand sprayer and 'spritz' the mixture whilst working through all the time. You need to get enough water into the mixture for it to feel a little like 'damp sand'. DO NOT over-wet the mixture. It should be just damp enough to hold together well when squeezed.
Step 12
Take the LARGE heart moulds, one half at a time. Fill one half with the mixture, pressing it into place. Put one small heart soap on top of the mixture and press into place.
Step 13
Take another half of a large heart mould and partly fill with the mixture, pressing it into the edges. Leave some room for the soap to be buried.
Step 14
Carefully bring the 2 filled halves together, pressing them firmly and symetrically. Then, lift-off one half, to leave the formed bath bomb in the 'bottom' half. Put this carefully aside for around 30 minutes to set solid.
