What does an exfoliating soap do?
Exfoliating soaps work to remove unwanted dead cells and dirt from your skin. The grains of the exfoliants get deep into your skin to clean out your pores, remove any build up and leave your skin smooth and revitalised.
How do you use an exfoliating soap bar?
To use an exfoliating soap bar, simply wet your skin with warm water and in a circular motion gently massage your skin with the soap, rinsing as your go. The circular motion allows the exfoliants to work into your skin from all angles.

How to make Exfoliating Soaps...
- Firstly, wearing gloves weigh out all of your ingredients. Let’s start by measuring out 100g of soap base. Simply pop out your soap base by apply pressure with the palm of your hand to the bottom of your tub. As the air gets in your base will release. Each base is 1kg, you can use the imprints in the base to work our 500g and then 100g. Just weigh your soap after to ensure you have the correct amount.
- Next, carefully cut your soap base into small cubes. This will help speed up the melting process.
- Then place your cubes into your jug and melt in the microwave on medium heat in intervals to ensure you don’t boil your soap. Initially melt for 1 minute then stir and put back in. Keep an eye on your soap as it can get hot very fast.
- Once melted, give your soap a stir to ensure there are no lumps. Then pour in your fragrance oil and stir to ensure it has dispersed throughout.
- Next, sprinkle in your poppy seed exfoliant. Just start with a small amount until you are happy with the ratios, the more you add the harsher your exfoliation. Poppy Seeds suspend really nicely in your soap, meaning you have an even spread throughout and a wonderful soap bar to help remove any dead skin and impurities. Leaving your skin beautifully smooth!
- Then, grab your moulds and spray a small amount of IPA in your moulds then you can carefully pour your soap into your mould. Use your spatula to scrape out any excess mixture.
- Gently spray with IPA again to help remove any unwanted bubbles.
- Then leave your soaps to set. Preferably overnight, however, a few hours is acceptable or when they have fully solidified.
- And there you have it, your very own homemade exfoliating soap!
How often should an exfoliating soap be used?
An exfoliating soap needs to be used no more than 2-3 times a week. Removing the build up on your skin but allowing it time to breath and recover from the exfoliation. Giving your skin a break reduces the risk of irritation and optimises the exfoliating soaps capabilities.
