How To Make A Hand Knitted Face Cloth
We think it is great to personalise a handmade toiletry gift. This shows you care and making your own also avoids unnecessary packaging. A lot of our customers are adept at many diverse crafts including knitting. This is a simple knitted face cloth done on the bias. We used a cotton yarn from a bargain bucket and picked grey to co-ordinate with a similar coloured some soap made by our creative team.
• Using double knit yarn and 4mm needles cast on 4 stitches.
• Row 1 knit, row 2 k2, yo ( yarn over needle), knit remaining stitches and repeat row 2 until you have 66 stitches or the required length of the sides of the face cloth.
• Then start decreasing, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog and knit remaining stitches, repeat until you are back to 4 stitches and then cast off.
We knitted 3 squares as we had enough yarn and stuck to 66 stitches, on reflection we would have made them a bit bigger, maybe a full 30cm each side.
How to use.
They could be used as kitchen clothes too and combined with a handmade natural cleaner for a gift. This saves the waste of repeatedly buying market brands or wipes as they can be repeatedly washed. There are many free patterns for plainly knitted cloths which came up on my web searches. This is a good way to use up scraps of yarn, cotton being the best to use. Happy knitting! Keep an eye out for a tutorial on how to make the coconut scrub soap shown above in future posts.
