INCI – Polysorbate 20
Polysorbates are a class of emulsifiers used in pharmaceuticals and food preparation. They are often used in cosmetics to solubilise essential oils and fragrance oils into water-based products. Polysorbate-20 is made from polyethoxylated sorbitan (chemical compounds derived from the dehydration of sugar alcohol) and oleic acid, a fatty acid found in vegetable fats.
Uses
Polysorbate-20 can be used where you need water and oil to combine, room fragrances for example. It can also be used in shower gels, cream & skincare preparations, liquid cosmetics and shower gels or shampoos.
Polysorbate-20 is both soothing and draws impurities from the skin making it the perfect addition to a range of skincare cleansers. As a guide, 10g Polysorbate-20 will solubise up to 3g of essential or fragrance oil.
Make your own Room Spray...
Add one-part Polysorbate-20 to nine-parts water (10% polysorbate to 90% water) and add up to 3% essential or fragrance oil to make a simple room spray.
Makes a slightly 'milky' liquid, so is best packed in opaque bottles.
