Mentha Arvensis. Origin: China
Mentha Arvensis (Cornmint) oil is not true peppermint. It is a less expensive oil that comes from this different species. Cornmint is very high in menthol but true peppermint has a sweeter, more complex odour and flavour.

Also known as Corn Mint or Wild Mint, this cooling and refreshing essential oil is traditionally used to treat flatulence, digestional problems, gall bladder problems and coughs. The Aztecs used it for similar purposes and also to induce sweating and they used the infusion to cure insomnia. The oil was extracted and rubbed into the skin for aches and pains. Peppermint oil has a fresh, sharp, menthol smell, is clear to pale yellow in colour and watery in viscosity. Arvensis has a higher menthol content than piperita, making it slightly more potent therapeutically.

We supply essential oils as cosmetic ingredients and as such we are not obliged to label them with warnings about their topical or theraputic uses etc.. Should you be purchasing essential oils from us for any purpose other than as a cosmetic ingredient please refer to our Essential Oil Reference Guide for useful information. You may want to re-label your products according to the use they are to be put to. Read Our Essential Oil Reference Guide.
